PM Edition for July 9

In today's episode, Chuck Spurgeon reflects on Genesis 1:4, discussing the divine separation of light and darkness both in creation and within a believer's heart. The devotional emphasizes the conflict between these opposing forces and how believers are called to separate themselves from worldly practices, aligning more closely with Christ and His followers.

Key Scripture:

  • Genesis 1:4

Main Points:

  1. Two Principles at Work: Believers have two principles at work within them—light and darkness. In their natural state, they were subject only to darkness, but with the entrance of God's light, a conflict arises between these two opposing forces.

  2. Apostle Paul's Insight: Referencing Romans 7, Paul describes the internal struggle between the desire to do good and the presence of evil. This conflict is a result of God dividing the light from the darkness within us.

  3. Separation from Worldliness: The light of God prompts believers to separate from worldly practices. They move away from a religion of mere outward ceremonies, seeking the true gospel of Christ. They also distance themselves from worldly society and frivolous amusements, preferring the company of fellow believers.

  4. Division and Conflict: This separation causes both internal and external division. Believers are called to be nonconformists to the world, dissenting from sin, and distinguished by their likeness to Christ. As Christ was holy, harmless, undefiled, and separate from sinners, so are believers called to be.

  5. Living in the Light: Believers are encouraged to let God's light within them shine brightly, dispelling darkness and guiding them on the path of righteousness. This light is meant to gather to itself, creating a clear distinction from the darkness.
