Join me for a conversation with Zach Hively, an award winning humorist, poet, creative non-fiction author and publisher. He has just released a new collection of short essays in a book titled Call Me Zach Hively: Because That Is My Name in which he highlights the perils of navigating the world as a so called adult in a way that touches the reader through our similar experiences enabling us to relate closely to his light-hearted humor. He continues to write and publish his Fool’s Gold column that has run in various western publications such as the Durango Telegraph, The New Mexico Mercury, Four Corners Free Press and the KC Post. The column has won several fist place awards from The Society of Professional Journalists Top of the Rockies awards. He has also published three books of poetry including Desert Apocrypha which earned the Reading The West Book Award for Poetry. After graduating from the University of New Mexico with a degree in English-Philosophy, he took a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Olpe, Germany. He then attended the graduate program in creative writing at Trinity College Dublin’s Oscar Wilde Center. Zach is also involved with the publishing company Casa Urraca through which he leads the Misfit Poetry Workshop. He enjoys the creative process of writing by hand which “produces something which didn’t exist before”. He feels it’s important to support other creatives in their journey “because if something is better for one of us, it’s better for all of us”. Zach Hively and his dogs live in Northern New Mexico.
