Our guest host is Lincoln Mitchell
Part 1:
We talk with Alex Scrivener, Executive Director of the Democratic Security Institute, based in Tbilisi, Georgia.
We discuss the mass protests in Georgia, and that government's violent reaction. This is important to Americans, because this is a fascist response to popular opinion, and we may likely experience it, given Trump's language and threats. In Georgia, demonstrations are often a response to government actions, not planned and 'permitted' by the government. In the US, there is complacency about our rights, and expectation that the government will not respond with lethal force. That complacency may be wrong. We should be prepared to resist more forcefully and massively, not violently. The US needs more of a disrespect for illegally acting authority. This should be our cold war.
Part 2:
We talk with Laura Jedeed, independent journalist who writes about the far right in the US.
We discuss whether there is a mass coordinated movement to resists the fascist regime that Trump will likely implement. Instead, there is a kind of acceptance of his plans, with the feeling that "we survived him before, we can do it again." The problem is that more than a million American people DID NOT survive before. Trump's cabinet choices are likely to carry out exactly what he is threatening, and there seems to be no appetite among Americans to stop this from happening. What can Americans do to stop this dismantling of the democracy?

Music: David Rovics, "Time to Act", for Will Von Sproson
