Political Correctness

The reality, dangers, and intellectual insult

DEFINE:

01:05 A belief that language and practices which could offend sensibilities of a particular group in society should be erased.

REALITY:

03:42 This not about politics.

03:45 PC is not a political side or a political debate, it is about thinking, or not thinking. Not about sides.

07:22 PC not about they, them, but us, we, me; The enemy is not another, the enemy is a poor way of thinking, communicating, and interacting with others.

09:19 Always going to offend somebody. This is no concern for offending others. It is about pushing a personal agenda. The reality that they don’t want their group (s) offended, hence themselves.

11:25One man’s freedom is another man’s offence. And it works both ways.

13:45 I want your language to align itself w my ideologies.

15:00 Judging while disguising itself as open and caring.

20:05 A language where you define the rules as you go and decide who you apply them to.

Allows you to call foul when others speak, and justify what you say. Puts on the defensive.

23:11 Opposition to political correctness is not opposition to critique. Actually, political correctness is the opposition to critique of themselves. Opposition is not asking for people not to be called out that are offensive. The problem is that they believe political correctness is calling out others and it is not. That has always existed. Political correctness is calling out others, claiming higher moral ground, and not realizing that is how two sides always argue. The difference is that they want the other side to be ruled as wrong (political correctness.)

26:26 PC is not calling out the wrongs of society, though they may believe they are. They believe they are on a virtuous mission to attack all of the wrongs in the world while not looking in the mirror and continually taking the moral high ground and justifying their own actions.

28:53 Just as a child only sees things from his view and how it affects him so is PC. A temper tantrum that somebody wasn’t nice to them (didn’t do, behave, give) them what they wanted??

33:32 Ethnocentric – judging other cultures and believing values and standards you hold are superior. Hence others inferior. Nothing wrong with preference. But to think we prefer because better is foolish. May be better to me or for me, but doesn’t mean it is better.

37:45 Sociocentric - looking at and concerned only with the world primarily from only your own social group perspective (close minded).

39:40 Egocentrism: inability to differentiate between self/others. Inability to untangle preconceived framework of ideals. Inability to accurately assume or understand any perspective other than one’s own. Disregard for others. Childish.

Selfish.

it’s about ME! ME! ME!

41:50 Lazy – people don’t have to think for themselves, or weigh the conversation, just criticize the words of others that do not align with the agreed upon acceptable perspective.

43:25 DANGERS:

44:25 Which group? Groups deemed taboo to offend, but ok to offend others. Who makes the list and the severity of the offence? OK to offend the groups you don’t like though (opposed, differing) An atrocity to dislike others because they are different, but ok for you to do the same to those that differ to you???

48:08 Who decides, who judges what is offensive?

Different degrees of offense? Slight/intense?

48:51 Allows you to be judge and jury – self-righteous executioner.

49:50 Labels others as hateful, dangerous to society. (the society they want) that does not include you.

52:30 Opposite of freedom of expression. Opposed to freedom of expression accept own viewpoint. Close minded though they believe they are open minded and others close minded.

54:46 Used as a club.

55:56 Many rebels came into rule by rallying the people against the current injustices, only to put their own injustices in place. We call them dictators.

57:28 Forcible suppression of opposition via authoritarian rule in the guise of manners, betterment t of society, fairness, and suppression of wrongs defined by the side in power. Nobody wants this type of society working against them, but would honestly desire it working for them.

58:29 Big brother – thought police.

58:40 A step in steeling freedom – speech.

58:48 Promotes small mindedness. Ripens the mind for totalitarian indoctrination. (Nazi Germany)

01:01:15 If proper words are not used there is the fear of the social pile on of the mindless.

01:03:32 The real problem is that people only want freedom for their speech and way of life and want to silence others.

01:03:43 Inflames cultural preferences into disagreements and battles that normally had no place and no real concern.

01:07:28 PC is not an enemy to one view or the other. It is only an enemy to our own free thought and uses us as a pawn.

01:09:30 One side has the right to voice their opinion as well as their dislike of the other persons opposing view. PC is an attempt to censure as not to be annoyed with others.

01:10:02 Creates problems, does not overcome them.

01:10:13 Groups of people rarely have an issue. It’s those that think they are superior for them and believe a person cannot stand up for themselves and speak up for themselves. It is only when they are told that they are despised and told of an imagined enemy that clashes begin where there is only a perceived problem.

01:12:30 When you speak against their point of view it is hate speech and punishable. But when they hate your speech it is OK. Moral high ground. Inability to see the irony through their iron curtain of ignorance.

01:15:39 INSULT:

Insults my intelligence that you want me to believe it is good to hide the truth behind false words. Were the Nazi’s being compassionate when they told the Jews they were being deloused instead of gassed? Idiots

01:18:04 Political Correctness should be an insult to my intelligence.

01:18:32 If you attack political correctness you are accused of attacking and hating others. Perhaps I just disagree with the view you have.

01:19:44 PC is said to be progressive and if you stand against it you are labeled regressive and aggressive.

01:20:06 Some would call it emotional thinking as a critique, but not thinking at all, emotional pathway of ease, based on superficial ideology with no real depth of reason or examination Sparing the mind heavy lifting of introspective thought or critical thinking – rational , skeptical, unbiased analysis of fact that is self-directed, self-disciplined self-monitored, and self-correcting. Not somebody telling me what to think or believe.

01:23:10 To naïve, shallow to realize their justification. Believe they are the enlightened ones.

01:23:56 Political correctness is offensive not only for the many reasons that we see in our conversation today, not just because it insults my intelligence, but because it is a terrible plague of people not thinking for themselves and that is why it is a topic today. To help you continue to unravel your psyche and free yourself to not be a sheep, but a leader.

01:24:47 naïve- people believe because popular

01:25:24 The person who believes they have all the answers are clueless. True intelligence lies in the understanding of how little I know. The logical journey of that thought is that I can only base my current stance on what I currently know. In the future I may learn more (experience) and my stance will change. EX teenagers know everything.

01:27:38 Some would argue that pc has made us nicer. NO, it’s a façade of phoniness. Is that what you really want phoniness? Are we so concerned that we are going to go around wanting everybody to be nice to me and offended if they are not? Wanting them punished. Sounds childish.

01:28:50 And if you find the TRUTH offensive?

01:29:36 PC is enjoyable because it is picking apart others and elevating myself. Judgmental. Very dangerous to be judging and hanging on every word and action of another ready to call foul. It takes away our own accountability and responsibility. We stop looking at bettering ourselves and instead focus on how I am already better than another, simply because of differing perspectives. It takes away me facing that there may be something offensive in me. Very similar to the Gestapo.

01:30:37 PC is a tool of a minority of extremists to fool and rally a majority to their cause. This only happens when the majority does not think!

01:31:07 The best I can do for a group that some would deem marginalized, or socially disadvantaged, or discriminated against is not do the same. Though I believe that by putting people into those categories I have already implicated myself. I can never make anybody do right, but I can do it myself and raise my children to do the same.

01:32:46 CONCLUSION:

01:36:05 Somebody will always be offended. Their needs to be reasonableness applied. What we really want is to be little gods and have the world exactly as we want it. Be careful as the person who is next to you and you are aligned with may at some point find something about you offensive. Then what? Instead of worrying about how others should act and how I feel about their actions. Let me focus on being better, not trying to make other people better, by my definition. Let me be considerate of ALL others. Let me start thinking different! Let me be different!! Then I can make a difference!!!
