Interview with John Moroney

With over 35 years in hairdressing, John Moroney has had the unique opportunity to work at virtually every level of the industry. On a break from university studies, he enrolled in beauty school at the suggestion of a friend, not realizing at the time that he would spend his entire adult life in this exciting and creative field. Working behind the chair for many years, John fell in love with helping other stylists through education. As a part-time educator for brands such as Sebastian and Aveda, he began to look for an opportunity to work full-time in brand education. Starting with Aveda Corporation in the early days of the brand, he eventually became Global Director of Education, reporting to founder Horst Rechelbacher. The next phase of his career led him to Los Angeles where he spent the next fourteen years leading Global Education for Sebastian and then with Wella / P&G Salon Professional. Joining Kao Salon Division in 2011, John headed the company’s global education & communication efforts, as well as serving as Global Creative Director for Goldwell, KMS, Varis and Kerasilk. He now is the VP of Global Education & Customer Experience for OLAPLEX.
