This episode is an ode to LGBT STEM Day! The second-annual #LGBTSTEMDay was on Friday, July 5, 2019. It’s a day full of events, campaigns, and storytelling to celebrate LGBTQ+ folks in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. It also acknowledges the unique challenges faced by trans and queer scientists in these fields.

To celebrate queer folks in STEM, I invited 6 guests to chat about their experiences as LGBTQ+ scientists. Here are our guests:

  • Meet Maya Degrood, Instagram's very own @MolecularMaven. She's a cancer researcher starting her M.Sc. at the University of British Columbia in the fall.
  • Stephanie is an incoming grad student at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, studying chemistry education. Check her out on Twitter at @ssnorkels.
  • Matt is a wildlife ecologist an PhD candidate at the The University of New South Wales. Check him out on Twitter at @m_davis8802.
  • Natalie Westwood is an ecologist working on her Ph.D. at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Check out her research and field work adventures on Twitter and Instagram!
  • Eva Bloom is wrapping up her M.Sc. studying sexting behaviour in young women. She hosts the pleasure-inclusive, anti-oppressive, and evidence-based YouTube channel What's My Body Doing and the web series Sex Ed School. You can learn with her on Instagram and Twitter!

Support #InferiorinCanada, as we fundraise to get Angela Saini's Inferior into high schools across Canada! Check it out.

You can find me (your host, Ive) on Twitter, Insta, and YouTube. Let's be friends!
