BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS - Brownsville Mayor John Cowen, Jr., won many plaudits for his first ever State of the City Address.

“Epic is an understatement when your mayor, John Cowen, rocks the 2024 State of the City,” said Brownsville City Manager Helen Ramirez.

The event was held at Texas Southmost College’s Performing Arts Center. TSC had never staged such an event before.

In his closing remarks, Cowen praised TSC and UT-Rio Grande Valley students for joining him for the address.

“Thank you to all the UTRGV and TSC students who are joining us today. This is your city and its future lies in your hands,” Cowen said. “I know the strides we're making today will be a solid foundation that helps propel the endeavors your generation will soon be taking on.”

Cowen said he is “immensely proud” to lead a city that “exemplifies resilience and dynamic growth.” He said the city’s recent initiatives “have successfully attracted a wave of investments that promise to bolster local businesses and create more job opportunities.”

Cowen added: “Looking ahead, I am exhilarated by the future of Brownsville. Our focus on technological advancements and sustainable development is setting the stage for a thriving, forward-thinking community of limitless mindsets. Thank you for attending our state of the city. God bless you. God bless Brownsville and hold on as 2024 brings our city continued success.”
