This week, Radio GAG marks the sixth annual National Gun-Violence Survivors Week (January 22 – 26) and begins its examination of the costs of gun violence. Our special guest will be Patricia Oliver, a co-founder of “Change the Ref,” and mother of Joaquin “Guac” Oliver, who was killed on Valentine’s Day in Parkland. Patricia speaks openly and movingly about the ways she and her family have been affected by Joaquin’s death (you will also want to tune in for our next podcast, which will focus on Change the Ref’s new project “Lawsuits for Survival.”). More stories from people whose lives that have been changed by gun violence can be found https://momentsthatsurvive.org, the National Gun Violence Survivors website. In Memoriam: Ahmir Jolliff and Dan Marburger of Perry, Iowa. The GVP News will feature very powerful and damning comments concerning the findings of the DOJ’S newly released “Critical Incident Report” on the shooting in Uvalde, TX. These remarks were heard on Lawrence O’Donnell’s “Last Word” MSNBC broadcast; the full broadcast can be seen on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMdh1GS1agg. (Before listening, please note that some comments may not be appropriate for young people and those who have been affected by gun violence.)
