Adham and Andrea get to hangout this week with Dr. Yusuf Akbar, getting up close and personal.
Yusaf Akbar is a Professor at the Department of Economics and Business. A strategic Thinker, Educator and Mentor to Executives and Start-ups.

Yusaf has taught at universities and business schools all over the world, including University of Michigan, Stockholm School of Economics, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Queen’s University, Canada, University of Warsaw and University of Montenegro.

Alongwith the extensive teaching, research and consulting experience in emerging markets - he is currently engaged in consulting and executive education in Bulgaria, China, France, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Sweden, UK and UAE.

His current roles in the Academy and beyond included Head Partner at the BrainTrust Network – a global end-to-end consulting eco-system; Founding Editor of the International Journal of Emerging Markets and an advisor to governmental authorities. His consulting and professional references include Banco San Paolo Intesa, Accenture, Citibank, Deutsche Telekom, Raiffeisen Bank, Telenor, Siemens and Toyota.

He has published in peer-reviewed journals including Journal of World Business, Journal of International Management, Cross Cultural Management, International Journal of Hospitality Management, Journal of Air Transport Management, Business and Politics and Harvard Business Review. He recently co-authored a text on Strategic Management in Emerging Markets.

With extensive teaching, research and consulting experience in emerging markets, Yusaf’s current research interests are focused on three topics (a) the internationalization capabilities of SMEs into emerging markets; (b) non-market strategies of multinational firms and (c) strategic impacts of the Sharing Economy.

In 2016-17, he completed a Research Fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Study focusing on strategic impacts of the Sharing Economy.

He has a forthcoming book (with Mark Esposito and Tahereh Saheb) in 2024 entitled Digitalization in Emerging Economies to be published by Cambridge University Press.
