My Own Stupid Fault
I have a food allergy. I won't go into detail but certain foods make me sick. There is no guessing about it. I know what I can and cannot eat. But last night I tried to cheat. I ate something I knew I shouldn’t. I rationalized that it wouldn't hurt me because it was just a little bit. Wrong!! For the next twelve hours, I was miserable. And it was my own stupid fault.
As I endured my self-inflicted torment, I realized I couldn’t blame anyone else. No, I was suffering the consequences of my own dumb decision. The truth is throughout the years I have made many foolish choices. Bad decisions almost always result in some kind of distress. Down through the years, my bad choices have caused me financial distress, mental anguish, and physical discomfort. And I could never blame anyone but myself.
And you are no different. If you are honest, you’ll admit that most of your problems are your own fault. We've all acted quickly when we should have taken our time. Now we are all haunted by bad decisions, words spoken too quickly, and things we wish we had not done.
The good news is this. God will forgive you of your sins and mistakes. The bad news is He will not erase the fact that those sins and mistakes were made. You see, God forgives you of your sin. But as long as you live on this earth there is the possibility that you will face the consequences of those sins and mistakes.
So, what now? Well, you can’t change the past, so give it to God and let Him do what He will with it. However, the choices you make today will impact your life tomorrow. The Bible says “There is a way that seems right to men, but the end thereof is death.” You need to stay away from that way. Big or small take every decision to God in prayer. Let the Holy Spirit be your guide. “And whenever you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you, This is the way. Walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21
