The ability to tell stories we are told is what distinguishes Homo sapiens from all other species. ‘Controlling the narrative’ is a phrase we hear regularly now in our political discourse. Christianity, Brexit, Fake news, the latest crime figures or the Nike swoosh are all the consequence of someone creating and telling a story. For as long as there has been language there have been stories.

Joy is co-founder of Tales from the heartwood, where she runs workshops for old and young, community groups and corporate teams.
