Ep015 – Justin Eckhardt and Ms. Monica Cervantes

Justin is trying to get started in the Oilfield… he reached out to Dan Morrison for advice (good choice) who put Justin in touch with Oilfield Talk for an interview.

After the interview, I connected Justin and Ms. Monica for further Environmental industry advice… sounds like they have a plan for Justin, after he graduates college.

Justin’s episode is rather short, so I added Ms. Monica’s interview from Episode 007… because hers is a very special and inspirational story.

AS A REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE (2022)

Recorded his first win of the season pitching for six innings, struck out seven batters, didn’t issue any walks, and allowed zero runs on two hits against Central Arkansas (3/22)…started his first game of the season pitching 1.2 innings with one strikeout against Texas State (3/9).

AS A REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE (2021)

Pitched in six games with four starts in first season of action for the Longhorns…finished with a 6.75 ERA in 13.1 innings pitched…held opponents to a .208 batting average against…the Longhorns won all four games he started and won in five-of-six outings…tossed a season-high 3.1 innings and allowed just one run against Nevada (4/13).

AS A REDSHIRT FRESHMAN (2020)

Made one scoreless relief appearance in the final game of the shortened season, against Abilene Christian on March 11...used just four pitches to retire the side in order in a perfect ninth inning...retired all three batters on groundouts...named first team Academic All-Big 12.

AS A FRESHMAN (2019)

Missed the 2019 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

HIGH SCHOOL

Named District MVP as a senior and named a first team all-state outfielder…lettered in each of his seasons at Sealy High School…also lettered in each of his four years in both football and track, earning All-District honors in football and making the state finals in high jump…in baseball, earned All-District and All-Region honors.

PERSONAL

Son of Kyle and Laurie Eckhardt…has one brother, Tyler.

Made 21 appearances, including six starts, on the mound

Finished the season with a 4-3 record

Struck out 36 batters in 46.2 innings pitched

Fanned a season-high four batters against Central Michigan on May 10 and Michigan on May 19

Earned his first win as a Buckeye at Cal State Bakersfield on March 12; he struck out three in 6.0 innings pitched

Prior to Ohio State

Transferred to Ohio State from the University of Texas, where he played from 2019-22

Made 11 appearances on the mound for the Longhorns in 2022 and started in five games.

Fanned 23 batters in 25.1 IP in 2022

Attended high school at Sealy High School, where he was a District MVP and a First Team All-State outfielder his senior season.

Monica is a World Safety Organization Certified Safety Instructor Master Level (ISO 17024), WSO Certified Safety Technician, and published in the World Safety Journal. Ms. Cervantes is also a Certified Safety Professional, Associate Safety Professional, and Industrial Hygienist. Ms. Cervantes holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas of Permian Basin with a major in Biology and a minor in kinesiology. Ms. Cervantes currently owns Twin Horse Environmental, Vida Medical Management, and La Chava. She is also a business partner in Kyros Global Group. She also serves as Gracias Foundation founder/CEO, Odessa Multicultural Committee president, and proudly serves on the World Safety Organization Board of Directors.
