Episode 153 - Dahlia Ramirez
Manage episode 415835211 series 3297027
On part 2 of this week's episode, we interview Cartoonist Dahlia Ramirez (also known as Dolly). Dahlia didn't start out to be a cartoonist, but the siren call of cartooning got to her. (Hmmm, I just remembered how that story goes. Probably not a good metaphor for being lured into cartooning). She has a great story about how a cartoon she did for McSweeny's led to her writing “Sex and the Single Panda”. A great book about The Revolting Pursuit Of Love In The Animal Kingdom. It's very funny and loaded with more than you ever wanted to know about the mating habits of animals.
Dahlia's cartoons can be found in the New Yorker, McSweeny's, Air Mail and the Public Transportation Magazine (see link below!)
You can order her book at her website:

And you can check out the Public Transportation Magazine here (or find it on random subway cars in New York):

On Part 1 of the episode, we discuss the current contests:
Winning captions for New Yorker contest #891 (Low and inside trading).
Finalists for contest #893 (Treehouse of captions).
Current New Yorker contest #895 (UFO Landing Strip Mall).
