One of the two men hospitalized after being shot during an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump was released from the hospital Wednesday, the New York Post reported.
Marine veteran David Dutch, 57, was released from Allegheny General Hospital, after being treated for two gunshot wounds, which struck vital parts of his body.
The shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired eight rounds during a July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Crooks was killed by Secret Service counter-snipers, but not before wounding Dutch and James Copenhaver, who is still in the hospital in serious, but stable condition.
A retired fire department chief, 50-year-old Corey Comperatore, was killed by Crooks after he dove on top of his family to shield them from the gunfire.
In the wake of backlash surrounding the Secret Service’s handling of security at the rally, Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned Tuesday, following a congressional hearing where she dodged questions and repeatedly stated that she did not have access to information, such as the amount of times Trump’s campaign team had been refused additional security.
