You live in a world of expectations. Parents have expectations for their kids, bosses have expectations for their team, and you, you have expectations for yourself. It creates a tension you can manage but never solve. There is who you are, who you want to be, and who other people expect you to be. How do you choose which expectations to strive for? What do you do when they feel overwhelmingly heavy.
Sadly, not every expectation is a healthy one. The expectation to live life at a faster and faster pace isn’t good for anyone but seems to be expected by everyone. Another powerful expectation is to quit engaging with people who have opinions differing from yours. Of course, the one expectation everyone assumes is true is to take care of yourself…you must look out for you because no one else will. What if these expectations are wrong? How much better could life be if you were rejecting expectations that are wrong for you?
