Today’s Headlines: Donald Trump has won the 2024 presidential election, becoming the 47th U.S. president. Kamala Harris conceded, delivering a speech at Howard University and calling Trump to acknowledge his victory. Republicans gained four House seats and are close to controlling both chambers, creating a likely GOP trifecta with Congress and the presidency. In state elections, Democrats broke North Carolina's GOP supermajority and gained seats on Michigan’s Supreme Court. Abortion rights measures passed in seven states, while California repealed Prop. 8, securing same-sex marriage rights in its constitution. The DOJ is reportedly preparing to wind down criminal cases against Trump under policies shielding sitting presidents. Meanwhile, New York's Governor Hochul and AG James launched the Empire State Freedom Initiative to protect residents' rights from potential federal overreach during Trump’s term.
