John Sidebotham BEM FCILT, Programme Manager – Mental Health & Wellbeing, Route Services, Network Rail to give him his full title!
He is a wellbeing leader – Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Champion - Mentor – Coach - Author.
John has worked in the transport sector throughout his career, starting with coach operator and holiday provider, Shearings, before consultancy, Centro (now Transport for West Midlands) and Network Rail.
He sees kindness and compassion, coupled with diversity and inclusion, vital to success, enabling fresh ideas to be brought in to challenge existing thinking, creating innovation and opportunity.
His passion for wellbeing was ignited through a journey through clinical depression. He is firmly of the belief that where we celebrate difference and uniqueness in a caring environment, where ideas can be shared without judgement in a safe listening environment, then this drives safety, performance, and innovation, whilst keeping us all as well as possible. An environment where we can flourish
Amongst other things he hosts a daily wellbeing call each weekday, open to the railway industry
One of John’s favourite quotes is: “Educating children to have more compassion is the single most important thing we can do to transform the world.” Dalai Lama & Archbishop Desmond Tutu, from their book, “The Book of Joy.” He believes this to be vital for our adult lives too, whether at work or in our home lives.
