The 2024 Alamo Bowl proved to be a disappointing end to an otherwise exciting season for the Colorado Buffaloes. The No. 17 BYU Cougars dominated the No. 23 Buffaloes, securing a convincing 36-14 victory. Colorado struggled to find their footing throughout the game. The offensive line struggled to protect Shedeur Sanders, and the running game was virtually non-existent. While Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter showcased his brilliance with a 43-yard touchdown reception, it was a lone bright spot in an otherwise dismal performance. BYU, on the other hand, capitalized on Colorado's struggles. They built an early 20-0 lead and effectively shut down the Buffaloes' offensive momentum. The game also saw the highly anticipated matchup between Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and his father, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders. Despite Hunter's touchdown reception and Sanders' decision to play despite likely being a high NFL Draft pick, the game ultimately belonged to BYU. The loss in the Alamo Bowl served as a sobering reminder of the challenges that still lie ahead for the Colorado program, even after their impressive resurgence under Coach Prime.
