In this episode of The Lawyers Weekly Show, host Jerome Doraisamy is joined by Scott McCartney, a Wotjobaluk man and chief executive of the Kinaway Chamber of Commerce Victoria, and Matthew Karakoulakis, a Kokatha and Narungga man and principal solicitor of AMK Law, to discuss the issue of black cladding. Black cladding refers to businesses that falsely represent themselves as Indigenous-owned when they are not. Mr McCartney and Mr Karakoulakis discuss the negative consequences of black cladding and its impact on the Indigenous business community and the broader community. They highlight the need for proper certification and education to address the issue, as well as the role of lawyers in advocating for regulatory and legislative changes to prevent black cladding.
