On this episode of Hard Knock Radio, we feature a conversation between journalist Nora Barrows-Friedman and Rashid Khalidi, the Edward Said Professor of Modern Arab Studies at Columbia University. Khalidi discusses the history of a century of war waged against the Palestinians, weaving together pivotal events and personal family history to shed light on this long and ongoing struggle.

Nora Barrows-Friedman is a journalist, editor, and broadcaster who has been the associate editor and audio production director for The Electronic Intifada, an independent publication focused on Palestinian issues, since 2012. Previously, she was the senior producer and co-host of Pacifica Radio’s Flashpoints. A resident of Oakland, California, she is also the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Media Freedom Award from the Media Freedom Foundation.

Rashid Khalidi is a Palestinian-American historian of the Middle East. In addition to his role at Columbia, he served as the editor of the Journal of Palestine Studies from 2002 to 2020 and now shares editorial responsibilities with Sherene Seikaly.

Hard Knock Radio is a drive-time Hip-Hop talk show on KPFA (94.1fm @ 4-5 pm Monday-Friday), a community radio station without corporate underwriting, hosted by Davey D and Anita Johnson.
