في هذه الحلقة، نلتقي بدينا الوديدي، مغنية وملحنة من القاهرة. بدأت الوديدي مشوارها الغنائي مع فرقة «الورشة» المسرحية في 2008وكانت أيضًا عضوة بفريق «مشروع النيل»، وأصدرت معه ألبومين.

اشتهرت الوديدي بصوتها المميز، وقدرة أغانيها على إضفاء طابع حديث على الفلكلور المصري، والذي كان مصدر إلهامها الرئيسي في البداية.

من خلال الحفلات التي قدمتها مع فرقتها الموسيقية، بالإضافة إلى العديد من الورش مع موسيقيين مثل كاميليا جبران وفتحي سلامة وجيلبرتو جيل، طورت الوديدي صوت موسيقاها، الذي تبلور في ألبومها المنفرد الأول، «تدوّر وترجع»، والذي صدر في ٢٠١٤ وجمع بين عدد من الموسيقيين النشطين بالمشهد الموسيقي المصري.

بعد الألبوم الأول، قررت الوديدي أن تسلك طريقًا مختلفة، وأن تنتج بنفسها ألبومها الثاني دون الاستعانة بأي موسيقيين، وبالاعتماد فقط على أصوات القطارات بالإضافة إلى صوتها الغنائي، وأطلقت عليه اسم «منام». أنتجت الوديدي «منام» بالتعاون مع مهندس الصوت الألماني-الأمريكي بريان سميث.

هنا، تحدثنا الوديدي عن تجربتها كمنتجة، بالإضافة إلى أهمية العمل مع أشخاص آخرين ودور ذلك في خلق توازن في حياة الفنان. كذلك نسألها عن أصل فكرة ألبوم «منام»، وما الذي دفعها إلى تفكيك أصوات القطارات وتحويلها إلى فرقة موسيقية.

Co-produced and hosted by music journalist/writer Maha ElNabawi and musician/sound engineer Adham Zidan, the podcast offers behind-the-scenes stories of musicians, their inspiration, and their process through a dynamic sonic experience.

In each episode, we feature a guest musician, and together we break down their tracks to give our listener a more intimate understanding of the complex layers that make up their unique sound.

Today we have with us Dina El Wedidi, a singer and composer from Egypt who started her musical career with the Warsha theatre troupe in 2008. Dina was also a founding member of The Nile Project, where she released two albums with the project. Dina became known for her style of musical singing, while interpreting classical Egyptian folk songs along with an out pour of concerts with her band, and many workshops with iconic musicians including, Kamilya Jubran, Fathy Salama, and Gilberto Gil. Through all this, Dina progressed her musical style and development, which culminated in Tedawar we Tergaa (Turning Back), her first solo album released in 2014, which also included contributions from many musicians across the scene.

After the release of her first album, Dina decided to take a different direction, and produce her first solo album, without musicians, it was one made entirely out of train sounds and her singing, she called it 'Slumber'. The album is Dina’s first experiment in production for Dina, it’s in cooperation with co-producer, Brian Smith.

In this episode we speak with Dina about her first experiment as a producer, and also the the difference between working with human beings versus machines, and the importance of creating a balance in life. But first we ask her, where the idea of 'Slumber' came from, and what prompted her to deconstruct the sounds of a train, in order to form a band out of it.
