Feed Your Strength and Starve Your Limitations
We all have different gifts and talents. No man is a vacuum. In fact, I believe that there is no such thing as the phrase “good for nothing.” Every person is good for something! God did not create any soul without endowing them with a gift or strength if you will.
So the question is, why are we not living our full potential? Why are we not living our dreams? Why are we not making the impact and difference that we hope to make in society?
If we are focused on your limitation, we will not even see our dream in the first. In during so, we end up strengthening our limitations and limiting our strengths. Energy flows in relation to focus. Where the focus is, there will energy flow.
You see, I have been there and I know exactly how it feels. A little story about myself: as you can already tell by my ascent, I am originally from Liberia. I came to the US in January 2016(a little over 3 and a half years now). Few week after my arrival, I was hit with a cultural shock and limiting thoughts about what could and couldn’t do. As time went by, I gradually started doubting my abilities. I got caught up in this web of, Oh! I am from Africa, and this is a whole new world, different culture and things are not the same - different this, different that, yardi-yarda. (I started blaming my circumstance and everything around me. Anyways, that’s another whole topic for another time). But what I am trying to say in essence is that I was focused on the problems and not seeking out solutions to the problem. I was focused on temporary challenges and not the will power that I possessed to weathered those challenges. Worst of all, I gave in to wishful thinking. Hoping that circumstances were the same as back home event thou I am in the US. This is why I petty people who complain that they are not good at something. Hey listen warning and blaming doesn’t help. I promise! At least it didn’t help me neither do I know of anyone that got their life better by blaming and complain about what they were lacking.
Fast forward, God helped me to shift my focus from my limitation to my strengths. I began to realize and reaffirm that nothing is out of my league; nothing is out of my range. I am capable of achieving anything. I have all it takes to be anything that I want to become and have. And of course, my faith and support system was a massive part of my paradigm shift. Like George Herbert said, “Do not wait; the time will never be ‘just right.’ Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along.”
I started affirming positive things to myself. Listening to nourishing tapes and speeches, reading inspiring articles and books, keeping company with people who could grow and influence me positively, people who could help stir me in the direction of my vision, my all-time favorite affirmation became “I Can Do All Things Through Christ Who Strengthens Me” (Philippians 4:13). Long story short, I started investing my time into personal development.
Reinforcing our strength, exercising what we are good at makes us much better at what we are good at. In the same token, highlighting our inabilities, dwelling on our inadequacies will only make us much weaker Focus on what you can do and not what you can’t do because that is the only way you will move forward. That’s the only way you are going to improve or transform your weakness into a strength.
Feed your strength, and your limitations will starve to death!!!
