What is True Connection in a Relationship?
Manage episode 401043879 series 3460687
Happy Valentine’s Day! We start out by talking about how others feel about the holiday, especially when it comes to your partner/significant other. Don’t just dismiss it as just a Hallmark holiday. Talk about it and get to understand your partner better- why do they like or dislike the holiday? Where does that come from? Take it as an opportunity to build that connection.
Speaking of connection, we really wanted to decipher between connection and attachment as they are different and aren’t always fully understood. We often hear people say “I love him/her and we have a connection” as a justification when someone treats them poorly. That can be based on something at a superficial level ( like similar interests or chemistry) or rooted in someone’s attachment style.
Attachment refers to the way we have bonded to others in our life from as early as childhood and speaks to the behaviors we exhibit to have our needs met. We get in deep on the attachment styles- what they are, what they mean, and the characteristics of each one. It’s important to know what your attachment style is so you can identify where it comes from and how to work toward a healthy, secure attachment as well as creating true connection with others.
Connection goes beyond physical attraction and all the surface level things. We talk more about what behaviors create true, deep, emotional connection and intimacy and how that allows you to truly know someone.
You’re definitely going to want to R.S.V.P to this party!
