Talking is a skillset, and getting to share your points of view, have authentic conversations and talk about those hot-button topics takes some knowledge to do it successfully. Especially when you’ve got a chronic illness/disability and you’re standing up for your experiences and the discrimination you face, having tools to have the best chats with people is vital. So this episode has a special guest that’s created a massive GenZ brand all about talking, it’s the founder and CEO of the non-partisan educational platform, The Conversationalist, Sophie Beren.
The Top Four Takeaways from this episode are:

  1. At 3:06, Sophie and Dominique give out the step-by-step guide to sharing all the points of view like the rebel game-changer you are so you never fear those hot topics again. They chat on how to advocate for yourself versus a community, how to share POVs without being defensive and why you DON’T want to change someone’s point of view in a chat.
  2. At 17:30 it’s Chat Me Up and we’re running through all the different ways to have chats with every relationship in your life, and this gets gritty. Sophie shares what “conversational consent” is, Dominique explains why ignorance isn’t a bad thing, and you’ll learn how to talk differently with family, romantic partners, the DMs/comments and the general public.
  3. Intermission STORY TIME comes at 38:46 as Sophie gives twice the stories from her life that explain why taking risks have allowed her to become the strongest and most authentic version of herself. And the spectrum of stories range from a 7th grade “Annie” musical audition to the reason a phone charger lead her to a Michael Phelps selfie moment.
  4. And the episode ends with some major powerful advice at 46:48 when the ladies express how introverted people can still share their POVs and advocate…even if it’s silently (yes, you can be empowered silently) and what’s the tips on utilizing curiosity words and facts to get conversations to stay on track productively. Challenge the prejudice, share your voice and chat with open-minded curiosity, and let’s get talking today!
