Have you ever had to sacrifice everything and risk your life in pursuit of freedom? Luis Penate and his family faced this harsh reality when they were forced to flee Cuba due to the oppressive communist regime.
The journey out of Cuba was extremely dangerous and full of hardships at every turn. Eight-year-old Luis had to grow up quickly as they were smuggled across multiple borders using fake documents. They spent years as refugees, constantly moving from country to country before finally reaching the United States.
Even in Miami, the struggles were far from over. Luis' father had to completely restart his medical career despite being an accomplished doctor in Cuba. His mother worked backbreaking jobs 7 days a week just to get by. Nine-year-old Luis had to be extremely self-sufficient doing adult tasks alone.
However, through perseverance and relentless hard work, they overcame the obstacles. Luis' father revalidated his medical license, and the family succeeded in their new homeland. Luis went on to create a multi-million dollar business.
