THE ACOUSTIC CAFÉ is a fortnightly program featuring a mix of singer – songwriter, Celtic, Cajun, global roots, traditional and contemporary folk, blues, country blues, bluegrass, country, old timey and Americana music from Australia and around the world. Live to air, 8pm, every second Tuesday.
In his edition of The Acoustic Café the first part will feature music from Loudon Wainwright, Ruth Moody, Johnny Cash, The Bushwackers, Nanci Griffith, Shawn Colvin and Jimmy Webb.
We’ll then hear a concert recording of one of the great Australian folk/country rock bands of the early 70’s, Country Radio. Kerryn Tolhurst was with the band at this time and shortly after he joined forces with Broderick Smith in The Dingoes, so there’s a couple of live Dingoes tracks added to the end.
We’ll then take a close look at Bob Dylan’s first album, self – titled, released in March 1962. The album features only two original compositions; the other eleven tracks are folk standards and traditional songs. We’ll listen to a selection of songs from the album sung by Bob Dylan as well as earlier versions of those songs by a range of singers: John Greenway, The Stanley Brothers, Bukka White, Tommy Makem and The Clancy Brothers, Tommy McLennan, Odetta, Blind Boy Fuller and Roy Acuff.
Finally we’ll finish off with a couple of Guy Clark covers from Radney Foster and Patty Griffin.
