In this suspenseful episode of “Gunsmoke,” Marshal Matt Dillon and Chester return to Dodge City to find the town in a state of panic, believing that an attack by Pawnee Indians is imminent. With tensions high, the townspeople are arming themselves, convinced that the Pawnees will raid at dawn.

As Marshal Dillon investigates, he discovers that the rumors have been spread by an elderly man named Tewksbury, who claims to be an expert on Indian affairs. The story takes a turn as Dillon digs deeper, realizing that fear and misinformation are the real enemies threatening Dodge.

Tewksbury’s motives and actions ultimately reveal that the threat of an Indian attack may not be as real as the townspeople fear. Through Dillon’s calm and measured response, the true nature of courage and wisdom is highlighted.
