Episode 31 is a Guerrillapreneur News show where we bring you news, views and predictions about the Gig and #sharingeconomies that are expected to grow to $335B by 2025.
We discuss seven items in Guerrillapreneur News First, a recent study shows that Airbnb guests who stay in minority communities do not spend as much as they spend when they stay in majority white communities. According to the study by Purdue Professor Mohammad Rohman and Phd Student Mohammad Alyakoob, in predominantly white communities for every 2% increase in Airbnb activity, there was a 4% increase in local employment in the region. Rohman and Alyakoob found that this correlation did not occur in communities where minorities made up 50% of the population. Second, I give you the Top Ten cities where you can earn money in the Gig Economy. Third, Isn't it time for the Uber of Airplane Flight. Uk-based Wingly is trying to become the Uber of the Airways for the leisure travel segment. Fourth, Bike-sharing in mainland China is imploding. In 2017, there were over 100 bike-sharing startups. Today, two players, Ofo and Mobike, control 90% of the bike-sharing market in China. Despite their dominance, #Mobike and #Ofo are not making money. Instead, their investors, #Alibaba and #Tencent, look at bike-sharing as a lost-liter that can help drive customers to their other digital services, i.e., payments and online ads. Fifth, public libraries are entering the co-working space and are helping micro-businesses get off the ground. Sixth, I discuss how Fair Care Labs is helping to create portable benefits that could accelerate the growth of the Gig Economy. Finally, I discuss how payment issues might cripple the growth of the Gig Economy. Gig workers not only want their money, they want status updates on when the money has been deposited and immediate notices when payment statuses change.
