Growing up right on the edge of my small town we had 5 acres of alfalfa to irrigate, a 3-wheeler, and a little barn for our 4H animals. We were no where near being farmers and ranchers nor did we live in the country. I did have the opportunity to be around a few of this amazingly hard working humans to learn the two things they ALWAYS carried in their truck…

Thank you for calling GIH where we instigate growth one call at a time where we utilize antiquated technology to deliver 3-minute leadership lessons every week day! This is message #155 and I am Aaron Havens.

Any given day snow could blow drifts 10 feet high, lightening could strike, coyotes could attack, sickness could run rampant, irrigation dams could break, water could freeze, tires could blow, things could break… on and on I could go. I watched a couple of my mentors in this area fix some things with Duct Tape and Bailing Wire that I had no idea it could be used for that. When a temporary fix to get your truck and trailer out of the field and back to the shop was needed, often times the Duct Tape and Bailing Wire would come out!

Super innovative. Very creative. Quite impressive. However…
How long will duct tape actually hold that thing together?

I came across a great unknown quote this week "You can’t rush something you want to last forever.”

Are you holding your days together with duct tape and bailing wire? Has a improv life been your theme for far too long? Are you trying to hold it all together in the temporary… now I totally get that! Or, may I ask, are you living like you want this thing to last forever. However mays days you and I may have on earth, are you being driven by a bigger and great purpose. If what you do, how you live, you want to be something that last forever… then my friends, temporary fixes are just that. Temporary. Eventually we need to pull our trailer into the barn and put a new piece on it.

The probably with temporary fixes is that we slowly stop noticing them and they become normal. Where in your life did you make a temporary decision and now it is normal? It wasn’t meant to be a long term answer… yet for some reason you’ve grown OK with it being a long term solution. Where have you started focusing on what is right in front of you, the urgent thing, and taken your eyes off of the bigger picture of where you’re going?

Thanks for calling in today. Tune in tomorrow for the weekend edition. May I ask you a question? Where is duct tape and bailing wire holding something together that is just temporary in your life?
