Gwen and new guest, @tippsam_ discuss the impact of the legacy of colonialism on Black people in Africa, the United States, the West Indies and Latin America. Sam explains how British rule exacerbated tribal tensions in Nigeria. Gwen and Sam break down how the fall of the British empire coincided with Black countries around the world becoming newly independent at the same time the Civil Rights movement was taking place in the USA in the 1960s and the reasons why Black Liberation and Pan-Africanism has subsequently fizzled. Gwen and Sam draw the thread between the history of colonialism and the slave trade to the Black Lives Matter movement of today. Lots of great nuggets of history in this episode!
