On this episode, we are excited to welcome the filmmakers of Taking Back the Groove, a documentary about famed New York City disco producer Richie Weeks’ battle with his record label to win back the rights to his music.
Richie scored a top-10 dance hit in 1981 with “Rock Your World,” and his music has been sampled by top electronic musicians like LTJ Bukem, cementing his legacy in the dance music scene.
Joining Richie is the documentary’s director Celia Aniskovich, a New York-based director and producer who began her illustrious career at NBC. Celia has co-produced Netflix hits like ""How to Fix a Drug Scandal"" and ""Fear City: New York vs the Mafia."" Her diverse filmography also includes award-nominated works like ""Fruitcake Fraud"" and HBO Max’s ""Call Me Miss Cleo.""
Rounding out our trio is Atish, a charismatic DJ celebrated for his intimate and elegant performances across genres such as deep house, Romanian minimal, and artful techno. His tracks, released on esteemed labels like Crosstown Rebellion and Anjunadeep, reflect his eclectic sets. Atish serves as a producer of the film and also wrote its score.
On this episode, we dive into Richie’s incredible story, and the making of the documentary.
