Episode 92: Liz Allan and Matthew Lumsden - Harnessing Second-Life EV Batteries for a Cleaner Future.
Liz Allan speaks to Matthew Lumdsen, CEO of Connected Energy. They discuss the fascinating world of sustainable energy solutions using repurposed electric vehicle (EV) batteries. Matthew speaks about how Connected Energy is contributing to improving air quality and reducing emissions by integrating advanced battery solutions in harsh maritime environments and how these efforts align with their collaborations with institutions like Newcastle University. Matthew highlights the pressing need to foster interest in renewable energy among the younger generation, emphasising the vibrant and exciting opportunities in chemistry and electrical engineering. Matthew also explains how second-life batteries can revolutionise our energy storage and grid management approach, paving the way for a more sustainable and efficient future.
Matthew Lumsden Bio:
Matthew Lumsden's journey into the environmental sector began with a pivotal moment in 1985 after reading a Greenpeace report on acid rain. Deeply concerned about the environment and wildlife, Matthew felt compelled to act. This led him to Newcastle University in 1986, where he initially explored various fields before setting his professional sights on the construction industry. However, his passion for the environment never waned, and in 2000, he transitioned into the renewable and environmental sector. Matthew became part of a team at TNEI, a consultancy business focused on innovative solutions for environmental issues, where he has since been making significant strides in contributing to a greener planet.
