Intrinsic Motivation Vs Extrinsic Motivation in the Workplace | How to Choose a Career
Intrinsic motivation vs extrinsic motivation is essential to how to choose a career at a career crossroads. According to self-determination theory (featured in Dan Pink’s Drive), intrinsic motivation, or internal motivation, is when a person is intrinsically motivated by competence, autonomy, or relatedness. In comparison, extrinsic motivation, or external motivation, is when people have external motivation such as the carrot and the stick approach. I break down motivation psychology and practical psychology for people to have career clarity during a career transition or career change. I outline these types of motivation by using intrinsic and extrinsic motivation examples with the old man story.
