Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 10 Episode 71 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Wednesday morning 11 September 2024.
Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is raining lightly and a warm 23 degrees Celsius at 5am!
In Rugby Union: Oceania Rugby has suspended Papua New Guinea Rugby Union after they failed to comply with several orders issued by Oceania Rugby in July.
The suspension comes after months of dialogue between Oceania Rugby and PNG Rugby on concerns raised by numerous stakeholders, including provincial unions, regarding the conduct of the board and management.
Consideration was also attributed to the failure of PNG Rugby to attend the first round of the Oceania Rugby Women’s Championships in Brisbane earlier this year, as well as the Olympic 7s repechage qualification tournament in June.
In Rugby League: Our world famous tip for the NRL Finals starting this weekend: In the First Qualifying Final, we tip the Melbourne Storm to crunchygranola Cronulla Sharks on Saturday at 4:05pm at AAMI Park.
In SportsBiz: USC and LSU drew a record crowd of 63,969 fans to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to kick off their 2024 college football seasons.
Nearly 300 miles away, another sellout crowd descended on Hollywood Park in Los Angeles to watch the same game.
What’s more, they had a better view than most of the fans attending live, thanks to one of the sports industry’s most ambitious tech firms: Cosm, Sports Business Journal reports.
Featuring an 87-foot-by-55-foot diameter dome, that offers a hyper-realistic and up-close viewing experience, Cosm is changing the way fans view games with what it calls “shared reality”.
Cosm attendees saw plays from the end zone just yards away, thanks to a camera affixed to the goalpost.
Fans also viewed the game at the line of scrimmage from the USC sideline, with that camera freely moving up and down the field throughout the game, ensuring Cosm attendees had the best seat in the house on every play.
The LA location, which is part of the Hollywood Park development that includes SoFi Stadium and the Intuit Dome, opened in June and includes 700 seats, all of which require advance purchase at up to US$127 per ticket.
And some of the Sport’s & Entertainment’s biggest names - ESPN, Fox, NBC, TNT, the NBA and UFC are working with Cosm to reimagine how fans watch live sports.
In the NFL: It was supposed to be about the long-awaited return of Aaron Rodgers, but instead it was undrafted running back Jordan Mason who stole the show as the San Francisco 49ers beat the New York Jets 19-32 yesterday.
The four-time MVP, who lasted just 94 seconds in his Jets debut last year before tearing his Achilles, looked solid in his return.
But the 49ers controlled the game on the ground, with Mason leading the way, running for a career-high 147 yards off 28 carries.
In Combat Sports: UFC has employed a team boasting Hollywood directors and producers, plus experts involved in everything from Taylor Swift tours and Super Bowl halftime shows, to deliver one of world sport’s most ambitious undertakings in Las Vegas this weekend for UFC306.
Dubbed “Riyadh Season Noche UFC” – UFC306 will be held inside the famed Las Vegas Sphere, boasting 160,000 square feet of wraparound LED screen.
The event will be headlined by UFC Bantamweight King Sean O’Malley against Merab Dvalishvili, and in the co-main event, UFC Flyweight Queen Alexa Grasso defends her crown against Valentina Shevchenko.
Finally, in Football: Swiss-born Ipswich Town and Kosovo goalkeeper Arijanet Muric has issued a statement after he and two Kosovo teammates were sent home after their 3-0 UEFA Nations League defeat to Romania on Friday.
Muric claimed he and his teammates went to a nightclub to buy food at 2am, and they were not partying.
Yeah right Muric we believe you!
And that’s a wrap peeps!
