Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 28 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Saturday morning 02 November 2024.
Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is a balmy 23 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning.
In Rugby Union: England has been warned by All Blacks Captain, Scott Barrett that Joe Marler’s call to ‘bin’ the haka has ‘loaded the gun’ for the All Blacks ahead of tomorrow morning's Test at Twickenham.
England rugby union Prop, Joe Marler had called for the All Blacks Haka to be banned, saying: “It’s only any good when teams actually front it with some sort of reply. Like the league boys did last week.”
The Harlequins front rower was referencing England rugby league player Mikey Lewis, who went head-to-head with a Samoan player, while their Siva Tau war dance was being performed before their clash in Wigan last Sunday.
Our world famous tips for all the Tests this weekend - Ireland to happydiwali the Australian Wallabies, the Flying Fijians to kalamazoo Scotland at Murrayfield and England to pakapaka the All Blacks at Twickenham.
In Rugby League: The NRL has handed Josh Addo-Carr a four game suspension, along with a A$15,000 fine. “The Foxx” was also handed a A$682 fine and a three-month driving suspension by NSW Police.
Where oh where will Josh Addo-Carr land?
In Football: Ruben Amorim was confirmed as Manchester United’s new Manager today.
The Athletic said the 39-year-old would stay with the Portuguese league leaders for their next three games, including next week’s Champions League match against Manchester City.
He is expected to take charge at Old Trafford during the November international break, with his first game set to be Man U’s away trip to Ipswich on 24 November.
In Sports Biz: The Paris Olympic Games not only boosted the entire Olympic movement but it also boosted NBC Sports and Peacock’s parent Comcast.
The company said Thursday that it generated US$32.1Billion revenue, up 6.5% on the third quarter last year.
Peacock, which showed all of the Paris Olympics live, increased its subscribers 9% over the prior quarter to 36 million, boosting revenue 82% to US$1.5B.
No doubt, Paris was the halo, generating a company-record US$1.9B in incremental media revenue from the Olympics, mainly through advertising and new Peacock subscriptions.
On the other hand, Comcast’s cable distribution business lost another 365,000 video subscribers during the quarter – down to 12.8 million - a year ago, subscribers stood at 14.5m.
And finally, baseball came back in a big way with the MLB World Series, with the Los Angeles Dodgers spanking the New York Yankees in five games.
Fox Sports said the series averaged 15.8 million viewers across all network platforms, 74% over last year:
· Game 1: 15.2 million viewers. The game was the best Fall Classic opener in 7 years
· Game 2: 13.8 million viewers. Competing against a full slate of college football.
· Game 3: 13.6m viewers. This game gave MLB a rare head-to-head win over the NFL.
· Game 4: 16.7 million viewers. Whoa go New York!
· Game 5: 18.6 million viewers. Was up 58% on last year’s Game 5, peaked at a whopping 21.3m viewers in the ninth inning as Los Angeles closed out the win.
And that’s a wrap sports fans!
