There is an important question every Christian must ask themselves, “How do I know if I am filled with the Holy Spirit?” This question is not asking, “have I received the Holy Spirit?” More clarifying, the question is asking, “How do I know if I have the fullness of the Holy Spirit?” How do I know if I am living my spiritual life in the fullness that God has designated for me?

In this week’s episode of the biblical counseling podcast, pastor Jeff Christianson continues his study of the doctrine of the Holy Spirit with today’s discussion of the topic, “Asking for the Holy Spirit.” Too many Christians walk around spiritually empty. You may have counselees who are not experiencing the victory God intended for them because they are spiritually dry. They do not feel God’s presence or lack his power against the temptations and challenges of this work. Sadly, their problem is that they do not have because they have not asked (Jas 4:2–3). Counselor, is it possible that your counselees are walking around spiritually empty because they do not know their responsibility to ask God for the fullness of the Holy Spirit? Furthermore, it is possible that you are lacking the resources you need for ministry to be the disciple-maker or counselor God has called you to be?

Jesus clearly teaches his disciples the importance and priority of asking God for the Holy Spirit. Pastor Jeff takes his listeners to Luke 11, where Jesus teaches his disciples about prayer…
