Psalm
Main Topic
We wrap up our discussion of the Psalm model with three concepts: Petition, Supplication, and Call to Action.
Petition
To petition someone is to see that person as higher, superior to you, who you nonetheless ask for something from. We mention a couple Psalms that relate to this concept.
Supplication
Supplication is very similar to Petition, but perhaps with a bit more pleading to it. In Psalms where the Psalmist displays supplication, he is typically begging God to do something about a big situation.
For an excellent musical example, see the Cardiphonia album, My Mouth Does Breathe (The Alone Instrument).
Call to Action
A Psalm that is calling the worshipers to something we’ve dubbed the catchy title, “Call to Action.” Many Psalms do this from the very first one straight through the last.
We have also updated the Psalm Model on our website to reflect what we’ve talked about.
