Troy and Stix laughed, reminisced about the old neighborhood, and had a wonderful time during this 80-minute conversation.
If you love great jazz music with a hip hop flavor, don't miss this episode. You will be totally entertained!
Recording Academy member Stix Bones graduated Purchase College, State University of New York with a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Performance. Stix started his career touring with Rahzel The Godfather of Noise (The Roots) in the UK and France and touring the U.S. with five-time Showtime at the Apollo winner/author/poet Jessica Care Moore. Shortly after Stix became music director for Lyricist Lounge, a hip hop showcase of rappers, emcees, DJs, and graffiti artists, and collaborated with legendary hip hop acts such as De La Soul, Talib Kweli, Q-Tip, Yasin Bey aka Mos Def, Common, and Doug E Fresh.
Stix independently released his first full-length smooth jazz album, "Groove Like This". The album has graced the airwaves of more than 40 jazz radio stations in the US, jazz Internet and satellite stations across the globe. It has charted in the top 10 on the digital jazz charts and made it to the top 20 jazz charts in France.
Stix became the drummer for internationally-known group Soulfege. Lead by Take Back The Mic founder Derrick N. Ashong, Stix has had the privilege to record two award-winning albums with Soulfege and toured the U.S. The album "Afropolitan" made its mark on the Jazz Week World Charts. Later that year, Stix stepped into the sync world with his single "Stepping In Those Heels" that landed on reality shows "The Real Housewives of Miami" and "I Love Jenni". Stix reconnected with Derrick Ashong to produce music for his Emmy-nominated TV music competition series "Take Back The Mic".
Stix Bones has mesmerized audiences with his band The BONE Squad as the house band for the 3000+ seat Paradise Theater in The Bronx, NY opening for artist such as Charlie Wilson, Chaka Khan, SWV, The Ojays, Babyface, Cedric The Entertainer and more.
Since then the BONE Squad has headlined at venues and festivals including The Tin Pan, The Sugar Bar, The Queens County Festival, The Metropolitan Room, The Cutting Room (NYC), Branford On The Green Festival, and Jazzy's Cabaret. Stix Bones is back on the skins once more with his seminal release, "Olimpik Soul," introducing Olympic Record Holder Bob Beamon on percussion.
With flavors of North African funk in the culturally-layered rhythmics of the instrumental track and sparks of funk flair within the keys, vibrancy radiates from the exuberantly sophisticated core of LEAP. While the syncopated percussive fills and seductive bassline growls set up the grooves, the horn section shimmers the soundscape with an unfaltering sense of expressive euphoria that will heighten any mood.
