Manage episode 328918054 series 3350738
“What problem are we solving?”
Thats the first question we all ask when looking at a start up... For me the purpose of this interview is to discuss the acceleration of NZ’s maturity in SaaS as one our greatest opportunities to raise our economy and people.
Termed the weightless export, SaaS is something we can continue to create, develop, exit and reinvest. Personally I feel NZ is on the tipping point, with a range of events combining to put us on the world stage:
- Xero: The anchor of Kiwi SaaS success
- The sales of Vend, Timely and Sequent
- Arguably the profile we gained from our pandemic response
- Rocket Labs multiple successes and manned spaceflight
- Govt mind shift from shovel ready to keyboard ready
- Influx of funding
So we’ll be looking at our SaaS approach, from the perspective of a Kiwi’s with the following global experience:
- Been part of growing a global unicorn; Canva (now valued at $40billion) as an early employee and the first Head of People helping to scale to 200.
- Drove operational excellence, helping Airtasker (marketplace) become profitable, go global and go public.
- Been the COO at Simply Wall St (Fintech), as it hit an inflection point setting up the right foundations for it to accelerate and grow.
- Is currently an investor and mentor in Startmate, Australia/New Zealand's premiere accelerator
- Has had the opportunity to consult and advise many startups as they navigate their way to success, leading to the creation of his own company Phase One Ventures
We look forward to opening up the conversation and digging into the key insights and observations that Mahesh Muralidhar shares and invite you to take the opportunity to ask questions through the comments.
