The Power Thanksgiving: How Prayer and Gratitude Set Us Free
Acts 16 tells of a time that Paul and Silas were arrested, beaten, shackled, and locked in the deepest part of the prison.
No doubt they were hurting, and were quite possibly afraid, and we’re likely very angry at the injustice of it all.
They had a right to feel that way. No one could blame them. But not all feelings are empowering.
So what did they do? They prayed. Prayer is where we acknowledge and pour out our deepest concerns, desires and feelings. Prayer is honest and often raw.
And they sang hymns, songs of gratitude, adoration and praise. They shifted their focus and evoked empowering feelings.
What happened then? “Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.” Acts 16:26
Prayer and gratitude set them free. prayer and gratitude set us free.
