In 2006, she became a professional development specialist for Lake Washington School District working in both math and technology. She focused on helping teachers and administrators of all grade levels and content areas on integrating technology and best practices to develop high-quality instruction. In 2008-2009, she attended the University of Washington in the Danforth Leadership Program and earned her administration credentials along with her Masters of Education in Leadership. In 2010, she became a Microsoft Innovative Educator Master Trainer and began working with NCCE and Microsoft to advance excellence in teaching and learning through the effective use of technology. In 2012, Sonja joined Everett Public Schools in Everett, WA as the Instructional Technology Coordinator and in November of 2013, she was selected to be one of the first 24 Microsoft Expert Educators in the United States. For several years, he worked in industry as a programmer as well as in I.T. While attending and teaching school in the US, Japan, and France, he has traveled extensively across the globe. He is a product of public education K-16 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems, M.A. in Education Administration, and is completing his Online Masters in Computer Science at Georgia Tech. He has taught in public schools, private schools, and professional schools and has worked with students from ages 5 – 99. His largest class was 300 students (I actually found out it was 300, not 30, in the hallway on the way to class. That was fun.) He has experience developing his own curriculum as well as using existing curriculum developed by others. In addition to being honored with regional, state, national and international recognitions, he has presented at conferences worldwide. Tammy believes the most important 21st Century tool in any classroom is the attitude of the teacher. “Teachers need to be comfortable tackling the challenges of using technology in front of their students and modeling how to overcome obstacles,” says Tammy. Tammy agrees with Bill Goodwyn, CEO of Discovery Education: “The motherboard and the memory chip will never replace the passion and inspiration of a real-life teacher. Technology doesn’t teach. Teachers teach.” Paul Watkins Paul Watkins is a teacher at Microsoft Showcase School Ysgol Bae Baglan (pronounced Us-gol Bi Bag-lan) in Port Talbot, Wales. An IT/Computing teacher of 12 years, Paul is currently the acting leader of digital learning where he focuses on staff development, innovative teaching, and digital competency. He is a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert, MIE Master Trainer, Microsoft Certified Educator and a Skype Master Teacher. Paul also sits on the Welsh Government’s National Digital Learning Council Twitter: @Lanny_Watkins Starting 8 am on November 28 th through till 8 pm on 29 th staff and pupils will be taking part in a sponsored event that will see the teachers completing a total of 36hours and pupils (from a class aged 10 to 11 years old) 24hours of skyping around the world. Pupils will sleep in the school whilst the teachers continue to skype through the night. During this time(when the pupils are sleeping) the teachers will offer three different connections: 1. Mystery Skype 2: Skype Kahoot 3: Getting started with Skype In The Classroom Training. The aim is to complete at least one call every hour for the duration of the challenge. We are so thankful to have the support of one of Europe’s top rugby teams – Ospreys, who will be joining us for both days with a different quad member attending each to play some mystery skype. As well as the Ospreys we have been thrilled with the support from some of the UK's top professional soccer teams, with one, Everton, skyping the pupils from the stadium during a Premier League match. All money raised will go towards the purchase of equipment for a school for refugee children in Kenya, Africa who depend upon Skype to enhance the education they receive. About Ole Johnny Devik After working in media for most of his career until 2010, Ole Johnny Devik now teaches media subjects, ICT skills and practical entrepreneurship in upper secondary school (age 16-19 years). Ole Johnny wants his students to experience a practical education, centered around the use of their developing media skills to contribute to the local community. Ole Johnny also aims to give his students international entrepreneurship experience, working closely with teachers and students in other countries. As a classroom teacher Ole Johnny has been a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert for three years, and an MIEE Fellow for the last two years. He has been awarded the regional award for best Entrepreneurship teacher in his home state, and his students have won national, European and international entrepreneurship awards. In 2015 his mini company won the Global Joint- Venture Award. Outside of academic subjects in education and media, he has also had three vocational diplomas in media, photography, and ICT. Ole Johnny is currently employed at Hafstad Upper Secondary in Norway, where he managed a two year Erasmus+ collaboration with teachers and students in Sweden, Spain, and France. The goal is to build strong networks between the students from each country, and for them together to learn, and develop their entrepreneurial skills. Student Created Films The MIE Fellow, Ole Johnny Devik: Ole.johnny.devik@sfj.no is leading a project called International Entrepreneurship with new methodologies, Four schools in the project Bell-lloc, Spain (main coordinator) Lycée d'Enseignement Général Technologique a Richelieu Rueil Malmaison, France (responsible for sales and purchases) Hafstad vgs, Norway (responsible for design and communication) Sven Eriksonsgymnasiet, Sweden (lined tion finance, plan collection in Sweden, etc.) The goal is to learn about teamwork and entrepreneurship, and cooperation across national borders. The cooperation will be through Skype, OneNote, social media, e-mail (as little as possible) – in addition to pupils and teachers should meet on physical and have workshops, presentations, training and cooperation. First in Spain in November, then in Sweden in March 2017 (with the participation of the booth where pupils compete for best design, etc.), so Hafstad autumn 2018. And finally in Paris in spring 2018, then we round out and evaluates the project. In addition, teacher (me and the three other project owner) meets in Paris in mid-November, and finally our 2018 in Girona, Spain to evaluate and terminate its reporting. In addition to that we will be working with entrepreneurship will my pupils work with design and create educational materials about logo design and online store for use by pupils and teachers in total Europe, shared with Erasmus + and Junior Achievement. This will be the great legacy of the project, together with documentation showing how others may like, work collaboration. It should vary these blogs and disassembled in the pipeline in all four countries. I am the project manager and is responsible for several similar project in Uganda and in Europe. At King’s David has implemented Office 365 for all students and staff grades 6-12 and plans to include all grades k-12. David has been planning and is in the process of implementing One Surface Proper student which will begin school year 17-18 at the HS level. He currently teaches teachers and students on the use of Office 365 apps including SWAY, OneNote, OneDrive, Microsoft Classroom and more. In addition, David manages, configures, and trains teachers on the use of Smartboards, RenWeb (Student management software), (250) Surfaces, (150) iPads, and much more. This is David’s 9th year as Academic Technology Coordinator at King’s. Prior to joining King’s, he was an educator at Darrington Grade School for ten years, teaching in Grades 2, 3, 5, and 6. He also served as the head coach for Darrington High School’s varsity baseball team for three years; as the middle school volleyball coach for two years; as the coordinator for Natural Helpers for six years; and one year each as the Destination Imagination coach and the chess club coordinator. During his tenure at Darrington, he was chosen by his principal to introduce and train other teachers in a peer learning process that addressed powerful teaching and learning. While developing the progenitor of the OneNote ClassNotebook is likely his more notable accomplishment with Microsoft, he has been integrating technology, from the earliest graphing calculators to the latest in pen-based tablets and cloud services, with deliberation and reflection for more 20 years. About Today's Guests Sonja Delafosse The first twelve years of Sonja's career as a K-6 elementary music teacher for two years and then a middle school math and choral teacher for ten years. In 2006, she became a professional development specialist for Lake Washington School District working in both math and technology. She focused on helping teachers and administrators of all grade levels and content areas on integrating technology and best practices to develop high-quality instruction. In 2008-2009, she attended the University of Washington in the Danforth Leadership Program and earned her administration credentials along with her Masters of Education in Leadership. In 2010, she became a Microsoft Innovative Educator Master Trainer and began working with NCCE and Microsoft to advance excellence in teaching and learning through the effective use of technology. In 2012, Sonja joined Everett Public Schools in Everett, WA as the Instructional Technology Coordinator and in November of 2013, she was selected to be one of the first 24 Microsoft Expert Educators in the United States. Sonja joined Microsoft in April 2015 on the Worldwide Education Team overseeing the educator and professional development programs Twitter: @sdelafosse Robyn Hrivnatz Robyn Hrivnatz has devoted the last 16 years to education in which she has taught both junior high and elementary school as well as serving in Instructional Technology roles in the great state of Texas. In October 2014, she joined Microsoft as a Senior Teacher Engagement Manager for U.S. Education managing the U.S. MIE Communities, serving as curriculum lead for professional learning, and managing social media strategy. Her driving passion is working with educators and learners to help revolutionize today's classroom and empower global citizenship. Her areas of interest include inquiry-driven project-based learning, innovative learning space design, student voice, social media for professional learning communities and helping educators design rich learning activities.
