Paralysis by Fear is Not a Winning Policy
Manage episode 418257354 series 3574193
There are two fundamental motivators in life – fears (kinds of abandonment) and aspirations (desires). Our fears encourage us to operate by strategies and tactics of avoidance that diminish who we are, our talents, options, and possible opportunities.
This life strategy compels us to play small and deny our potential. So, we not only play small, we become smaller. We embrace smallness.
Aspirational desires, based upon enduring principles of happiness and success, motivate us to assert ourselves for achieving "more" or put another way, greatness. Healthy aspirations bring us more because we must develop ourselves first to build a bigger, better life, however, you define those terms. As we do this work and continue our personal and professional growth, we position and qualify ourselves to lead others with integrity.
Leaders, ask yourself these two questions:
- What have you noticed about how fears influence you to play small or pursue small things?
- What life aspirations from the past or the present have motivated you to play big or pursue significant goals in your life?
In this episode of Mainline Executive Coaching ACT, we talk about five specific fears that hold us back, our teams back, and our organizations back as well.
