In this podcast we'll practice with the verb to want. What's the difference between to wish and to want? Wishes are desires. "I wish I lived in Paris," for example. It's a dream but may never happen. "I want a new computer," on the other hand, or "I want a cup of coffee," tell the listeners about things you need and may get soon if possible.
1) What does he want? He wants some more coffee.
2) What does she want? She wants a job.
3) He wanted to leave work early, but his boss said he had to stay.
4) I want to fly around the world. But I don’t want to pay for the trip!
5) They want to give their father a surprise for his birthday.
6) Do the children want a dog for Christmas?
7) He wants to live in France for a few years to improve his French.
8) I want to learn to ski. My sister wants to learn to play the guitar. My younger brother wants a TV in his bedroom. None of us are going to get what we want.
9) If you don’t see what you want, just ask me.
10) Do you want to bet on that?
11) How much do you want for that old truck? (How much money…).
12) I wouldn’t want to be in her shoes!
13) If you want something done right, do it yourself.
14) Some people are never happy. The more they have, the more they want.
15) Forget it. I’ve changed my mind. I want out of this deal.
16) I want my money back.
17) The last thing my mother wants is a neighbor with noisy dogs!
18) What do you want me to say? The answer is no and it’s not going to change.
