The Mad Centrist - The political podcast for the rest of us.
The MAD Centrist – named after the Kurt Vonnegut quote from The Monkey House, “A sane person to an insane society must appear insane.”
Donald Trump is the first former president to go on trial for a crime in the history of the United States of America. In this episode we take a peak at "week one" of the trial, review the charges, and then we dig very deep into why they are so much worse than they appear on the surface.
SHOW NOTES - including the timeline, and the vote tallies I referenced in this episode.

Rough timeline:
· March 20, 2006 – Melania Trump gives birth to Baron Trump.
· June 2006 – Donald Trump meets Karen McDougal, and an affair that lasts until April 2007 begins.
· July 2006, with Karen at the same Edgewood Resort on Lake Tahoe, where she claimed they had sex, Donald Trump allegedly had sex with Stormy Daniels. That means in one weekend he cheated on his wife, and then cheated on his wife and the women he was cheating on his wife with.
· 2015 – David Pecker, Donald Trump, and Michael Cohen reached an agreement that Pecker’s AMI will look out for Trump by squashing bad stories and planting fake ones.
· January of 2016 - Doorman of Trump Tower, Dino Sajudin, is paid $30,000 by AMI to bury his story of Donald Trump having a baby out of wedlock. According to my research, most news reports believe this story was made up by the Doorman.
· August of 2016 – just after Donald Trump becomes the Republican nominee - Karen McDougal was paid $150,000 by AMI, for much the same reason – to bury the story.
· October 2016 – Cohen pays Stormy Daniels through an LLC created specifically for this purpose. Over the next year he is reimbursed for this by both Trump’s revocable trust and Donald Trump himself. The reimbursement is not in doubt, the checks actually exist for these payments.
· November 4th, 2016 – News breaks about the AMI/Karen McDougal agreement, and the supposed cause.
· January 12th, 2018 – the WSJ breaks the story about the Michael Cohen payments to Stormy Daniels.
· August 2018 – Michael Cohen pleads guilty to Campaign Finance charges.
· March 30th, 2023 – after lots of politics and delays, a Grand Jury indicts Donald Trump.
