Breathing Life into a Lost Culture – Shen Yun Performing Arts
Manage episode 155534583 series 1160168
What are the Chinese people like? What are their most treasured values and traditions and the true representation of the Chinese people everywhere? These answers lie in Shen Yun Phoenix shows and it is coming to Ikeda Theater at Mesa Arts Center from Feb. 28 to Mar.10 ,2013 .
With its mission of reviving 5000 years of Chinese culture, Shen Yun Performing Arts has earned the highest praises from people of all walks of life. Marilyn Giardino, a college professor of world mythology and filmmaker for 25 years, was thrilled after seeing the beautiful dance, hearing the magnificent music, and was overwhelmed by the soul of the performance. She went on further to say that “the show for me is a spiritual trip to China, in the heart and mind of the people, maybe not China today, but in the hearts and minds of people everywhere, there is a soul, there is the soul of the Chinese people.”
With a glut of performances coming from China, questions come to mind about the genuinity of these performances. Is the history told the real history? Are the supposedly heros and heroines accounted by moral values of international humanity? Sandra Finkelstein, CEO of 2Bempowered and an inspirational writer, commented that Shen Yun “is very nice and soothing, and you see the pleasure and the freedom and the happiness and the joy, where that tends to be more, like I said the Communist-typed dance is a little more tactical and firm. Just more representative of the regime.”
Based in New York, Shen Yun is drawing upon talents of Chinese dancers and musiciansfrom all over the world, to present a rich and divine culture that is on the brink of destruction. As suggested by Kate Nelson, owner of a music school, people who have never seen Shen Yun should “come with open-mind, come with an open-heart, and just sit and let your eyes enjoy the delightful, delightful, magnificent performance.” Gammage Tickets for shen Yun Phoenix show can be purchased online at http://www.azshows.com/TheaterTickets
