Episode 570: Arnie Arnesen Attitude October 9 2024
Manage episode 444382725 series 3371230
Part 1:
We speak with Dean Preston, Member of San Francisco Board of Supervisors.
We discuss how a lot of money is being used to shift San Francisco to the right politically. Many very rich people want to make SF a tech libertarian state with no thought to the people who already live there. They want to eliminate many institutions of direct democracy in the city. Donors are hiding behind blandly named organizations, and are already in control of the Democratic party Central Committee. San Francisco, while not an especially large city, is influential and this is an alarming development.
Part 2:
We speak with Carolos Vargas Ramos, a political scientist and Director of the Center for Public Policy at Hunter College.
We discuss the effect of Latino voters on elections. We also learn the distribution of Latino voters, and the distinction between Latino groups and age segments, economic groups, etc. and how they are likely to vote. What kinds of jobs are Latinos likely to be holding? What is their connection to undocumented people? Where do they live, and how will this affect the votes from those states?
