In this episode we discuss how affordable housing is defined by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. “Affordable Housing: Affordable housing is generally defined as housing on which the occupant is paying no more than 30 percent of gross income for housing costs, including utilities.” When thinking of whether housing is affordable or not it is important to take your own budget into consideration. Never rely on the mortgage company to determine your budget. When shopping for affordable housing it is important to think into the future. If the home you are buying will need repairs in the first few years it could become very unaffordable fast!
