Is the crisis to big to handle or are there solutions we haven’t talked enough about yet? In this bonus episode of Människor & Migration we have the pleasure to interview David Miliband, president and CEO of the International Rescue Committee. Together with Maja Dahl, head of communications at Arena Idé, David Miliband talks about what we need to do to help the people who have been forcibly displaced from their homes. Why is giving refugees money more effective than handing out blankets, clothes and food? How can the resettlement programs set more ambitious goals? Why are so many of todays solutions short term when we know that displacement are a long term problem? They also discuss the need to change the way we talk about refugees. How the use of expressions like “heavy vetting” and “chain migration” changes the willingness to welcoming refugees. David Miliband describes the changes in the US since Donald Trump became president, and the threat that causes to the International Rescue Committees work in the country.
