Charles Manzel: Remembering the Man, Not Just His Murder
Manage episode 341800105 series 3358733
Charles Manzel was murdered on his first night back with the Ogden Police Department May 9, 1921 after a stint as a foot-beat Patrolman from 1914 to 1919, while investigating a burglary-in-progress. That is what he is remembered for. But, dare we ask, while all Police Officers who made that ultimate sacrifice should be honored, what should they be remembered for? What happened to them? Or so much more? We explore these themes along with Manzel as an Officer, his murder, and the aftermath. But we also explore his personal life, personal experiences, life in the Gilded Age in Ogden, Manzel's personal interests, and so much more. Join us and get to know the man behind the murder. As well as the strange sequence of events that led to a spot opening up so that Manzel could return to the Ogden Police in the first place.
Time and our spots in time are a strange thing. One small change in sequence and the whole timeline would not have occurred. Something to ponder on as you learn about Manzel and what took place in Ogden.
