The Paracas textiles are more than 2000 years old and still in very good condition. The textiles were used to shroud the dead, who were sitting in baskets wrapped in layers of extraordinary embroidered textiles and placed in burial chambers. What is so special about these textiles? How did they end up in Gothenburg? Today the “Gothenburg collection” have been returned to Peru, and counts as a good example of repatriation of heritage objects. What significance did these textiles have in the Paracas culture and what role do they have today for Peru? This, and more, will be discussed when Inside the Box hosts Ann H. Peters, world renowned expert on Paracas textiles, and visual artist Oscar Lara.
